Humans who make robots
Humans who make robots
CustomRobotParts.com places a high value on talented engineers, designers, artists, technicians and tradesmen, as well as everyone else who has a talent or passion for their job and wants to help our company grow. In order to tap into the largest pool of talent within and across the US, our company offers remote roles for all work that can be done remotely or is not related to on-site activities around the manufacturing lab or warehouse. We have a preference for creating jobs within our local communities, but people who can prove they are capable of productively managing their roles remotely can help us to expand our reach. The right people will have the most flexibility to create a work environment that is inspiring and productive, and embodies our company's goal of excellence in autonomy. We are looking for people who provide remarkable results when we stay out of their way and focus on ensuring they have the resources they need.
Roles
Engineers, scientists and designers who work for our company are encouraged to set up their own labs and rapid prototyping capabilities in order to help quickly serve our clients around the USA. Our vision is to provide our engineers with desktop versions of our in-house machines, such as resin printers and 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, and others, all of which can be scaled using the same tools. We're not quite there yet, but with your help we will make it a reality!
At this time, we are taking resumes and considering project-based contracts-to-hire with the following expertise. Owning the tools for the job gives you bargaining power!
Robotics Engineers
Our Lead/Senior Robotics Engineer is one who has a breadth of experience which spans across electrical, mechanical, and software disciplines, and has the potential to single-handedly develop a robotic product all the way from the concept phase to completion or functional prototype. You will help us concept and fine tune our AI-ready platforms, and be able to recognize areas of the project where a specialist would make the most impact. You'll work with our designers to make functional, aesthetic, reliable, efficient and manufacturable parts and products for our product lines.
Our Robotics and Intelligence Engineering Specialists might only work on one or two key aspects of a product, i.e. integrating actuators into mechanical structures; creating embedded electronics to interface with sensors and actuators; writing real-time firmware to enable precision controls; writing test and calibration software for robots; writing basic low-level autonomous motion controls such as way point navigation, station-keeping and return home; computer vision or some particular aspect; precision controls and motion planning, and more. If you are an expert at designing a particular part of a robot, then you're the specialist we are looking for.
Our Lead/Senior Robot Intelligence Engineer has worked with all different levels of machine intelligence, from basic environmental awareness and autonomy, to working with new AI models for processing language and imagery, and other purely numerical data. This role is for someone who is energetic but ethically cautious about implementing cutting-edge AI technology into physical platforms to enable high levels of service to people and businesses. Your team's software will ultimately be used to demonstrate the AI-readiness of our in-house robotic platforms in simulation and real-life demos, but the real goal is to create a software interface that makes it easy for others to integrate AI into those platforms as well. This might include pre-trained models, APIs and front-end interfaces, UI, etc. Some parts or all of the code for our platforms may be released as open source. This role can make a big difference in the efficient operation of our business as well, by identifying areas where AI can be implemented and recommending a solution.
Machinists and Machining Specialists
Our Micro-machining Specialist knows how to get tiny, durable, precision parts out of high-DOF, high-resolution CNC machines. They can make suggestions for tolerances for various processes, and pick the most suitable material for an application. They can identify parts of the design that need to be reworked and make recommendations to improve manufacturability. They can also create casts and injection molds for tiny plastic parts, and make recommendations for machines and processes to create tiny pieces out of other materials.
Our Staff Machinists work with raw materials to create molds and precision parts from designs using manual and robotic methods.
Robot Technician Our robot technicians turn the wrenches on electrical and mechanical integration with physical platforms. Robot technicians work with engineers and make recommendations about what parts are needed, and what tools would get the job done. Robot technicians handle maintenance and upkeep of manufacturing machines, and carry out end-user testing on physical platforms, finding faults and providing recommendations.
Additive Manufacturing Engineer
The person in this role understands the properties and qualities, benefits and drawbacks of all the forms of additive and/or subtractive manufacturing. They are able to identify the best material and best process to use for a given purpose, and use best practices to ensure that our rapid-prototype parts are durable and usable without fail. They are able to identify problematic areas of a design and make recommendations to remedy those issues without loss of functionality or aesthetics.
IoT Engineering Specialist
This engineer will have knowledge of various wireless technologies, as well as battery operated, low power, and energy harvesting devices. The best person for the job has applied IoT technology to collaborative or swarm robotics, or has experience designing for a wide variety of precision sensors on low-energy networked or wireless devices.
